New This Year! Bicycling Magazine Open Invites Amateurs to Ride the Pro Course
PHILADELPHIA (May 24, 2012) – Elite pro cyclists from some 30 countries will descend on Philadelphia on Sunday, June 3, 2012 for the TD Bank Philadelphia International Cycling Championship – America’s biggest single-day cycling race. This year’s event will mark the 28th running of the only UCI Hors Category classic road race in the United States. In addition to the Philadelphia International Championship, the event’s companion race, the Liberty Classic, will celebrate its 19th anniversary and feature some of the world’s top women’s teams. A full weekend of activities surrounds these world-class races, with fun for the whole family.

Friday, June 1
11:30 a.m. Official TD Bank Bike Race Press Conference
TD Bank, 1900 Market Street, Center City
TD Bank Philadelphia International Cycling Championship & Liberty Classic race weekend kicks off with a press conference at the TD Bank at 19th and Market Streets announcing weekend events and racing strategies.
6:30 p.m. Pure Energy Cycling-ProAir HFA/Cykel City Meet the Team Dinner
In Riva Restaurant, 4116 Ridge Avenue, Philadelphia (East Falls)
The Pure Energy Cycling-ProAir HFA/Cykel City pro team will meet at the new cycling themed In Riva restaurant in East Falls on Friday evening for a team dinner and to talk race strategy. The team is comprised of the Swedish National Champion, Philip Lindau, five other Swedes and two American cyclists from the Philadelphia area, Michael Chauner of West Chester, Pa., and Bobby Lea of Topton, Pa. Lea was recently named to the U.S. Olympic Cycling Team and will compete in the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London. He also competed in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. Join them for dinner to get an insider’s view of how cyclists prepare for this world-famous race.

Check out everything you need to know about cycling, fitness and sports at the two-day Philadelphia Cycling, Health & Fitness Expo, located course-side on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Visitors can check out the latest in bikes and cycling gear and explore all of the health, wellness and fitness resources the region has to offer.
Sunday, June 3
7 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Bicycling Magazine Open
New this year, Pro Cycling Tour, organizers of the TD Bank bike race, has teamed up with Bicycling magazine and Charity of Choice to create a Gran Fondo or “Big Ride” ride that anyone can try for fun before the professional men’s race gets started. Named the Bicycling Magazine Open, this Gran Fondo allows every rider to feel like a pro as they pedal all or parts of the 14.7 mile circuit for up to three laps. Not only will riders experience the rush of being on a closed, professionally timed race course, but many chose to turn their rides into fundraisers for their favorite charities through the event’s collaboration with Charity of Choice.
